The story of Fairview Hotel dates back to 1996 when Andre and Marinda Thomas opened the doors of the Fairview Hotel, Tzaneen, then named Fairview Country Lodge, on the outskirts of the picturesque town of Tzaneen.
At that stage the 26ha of farmland was mostly planted with avocado trees, and a small portion was developed in terraces for caravans, tents and a few rondavels.
The couple saw the opportunity in the overnight accommodation market due to its central position in Limpopo. The Tzaneen area had ample opportunities, its beautiful natural environment and ideal climate conditions throughout the year, an ideal stopover for the discerning businessman and tourist.
With a strong vision of good quality and service of excellence, Fairview soon developed into a fully-fledged accommodation establishment, with an ’la carte restaurant, ladies bar, conference facilities and a wedding facility.
With constant attention to detail, training of staff and hard work the property earned a four-star grading from the South African Tourism Grading Council in the year 2000. Other grading councils, the AA Travel Guides and the Portfolio Collection who assess the property on an annual basis up until today ensure that our standards stay high.
An unfortunate event took place on a Sunday evening, 3rd January 2003, when an inferno demolished the main building including the restaurant, bar and conference facilities of the Fairview Hotel. The incident was handled with the least impact on guests, and operations carried on as normal as possible. Breakfast and lunch were served in a pole lapa which was erected in two days with a temporary kitchen and scullery. Thankfully no staff were retrenched during this time and needless to say our guests enjoyed our open-air restaurant and "braaivleis" to bits!
The effort to rebuild was huge, but with a winning team of in-house builders, thatcher's, painters etc. the new building was erected in only 9 months! This building, now three times the size of the previous one, offers four state of the art conference facilities, a 400 m2 ballroom, a modern kitchen with storerooms and walk in fridges, a separate bar, ninety seater restaurant and ample ablution facilities. A leap of faith, that turned into a dream come true…
Due to the larger main building and conference facilities, a higher demand on accommodation soon developed, and in 2007 the exclusive 5-star graded Village at Fairview, a hotel with 10 super luxurious suites was opened as an annex to the Fairview Hotel.
True to Andre Thomas's creative nature, another project was already on its way in the background, the development of the Fairview Golf course. In close corporation with golf professional, Mr. Ray Earle, the golf course was planned, designed and will soon be completed as an 18-hole mashie golf course. The course will also be used as a training facility to support golf development in the youth in Limpopo, by having a golf academy where youngsters could stay during holidays and receive professional training and coaching from Mr. Ray Earl.
To complete the picture, the exclusive Zen Spa and Rasul was added to the Fairview Hotel and Village, on the 1st November 2014 and that was the beginning of an establishment which offers top of the range luxurious accommodation, excellent service and the best value for money in Limpopo. The hotel is owner managed since 1996. Below is our moto that we live by, which has taken us from strength to strength.
