Cycling in the area

The two most popular disciplines in cycling are Road and Mountain Bike cycling. Each discipline has its own attraction and both are widely enjoyed in South Africa.

The Greater Tzaneen area, in particular, is suited for cycling all year round as the weather is ideal and the area offers a large variety of challenging terrain for the sport.

Road cycling - The Tzaneen area has excellent tarred roads, which makes it a preferred destination for cyclists. Roads on the north eastern part are flat and fast while the southern and western areas have five serious climbs to challenge the riders. Low traffic volume in the Greater Tzaneen area makes riding particularly safe and pleasurable.

Mountain Biking - The Tzaneen area is tucked up against the most northern tip of the Drakensberg range and has many awesome opportunities for cross-country riding. This area has a variety of game farms, which are also opening up their hospitality to cyclists.
A highlight for cyclist is the annual Magoebaskloof Mountain bike Classic, held in November each year. This 18 year old race drew a number of 250 cyclist in 2016, and was successfully hosted by Stanford Lake College.

Golfing

Situated adjacent to the Tzaneen / Modjadjiskloof Road, Tzaneen Country Club is an undiscovered gem awaiting the eager challenges of those bold enough to bring their "A-game" and perform to the best of their ability whilst not being intoxicated by the allures of this inland course's scenic beauty.

The design of the 18-hole TTC course has matured over the years and is a course that rewards good shot making and that can be set up with a high resistance to scoring. In the Limpopo Province TCC is reputed to be one of the fairest tests of golf around and should have the high and low handicapper alike competing to book the next round...

Complementing the layout at TCC, there are facilities to cater for the discerning golfer's every whim. A well-stocked bar with an intimate fireplace creates an ambience that will have visitors becoming friends. A key fixture on the calendar is the annual Koraalboom Tournament held in May that attracts a selection of local and visiting golfers for a weekend of golfing and good times!!

Golfers begin vying for a spot in this limited field as early as January.

Other golf courses in the area are:
Orangedene Golf Club: 9-holes with an extra nine T-offs (Turn-off from Tzaneen to Tarentaalrand on the R71)
Fairview Golf Course: On the Old Gravelotte Road, only 1,2 km from the CBD of Tzaneen. This is an exciting new development in association with the "Goose Academy", where youngsters will have the opportunity to develop their golfing skills. This academy was established by the well-known golfer, Retief Goosen, and his coach, Mr. Ray Earl, with the aim of promoting the game for young people of our area. This golf course is a proper mashie course, with 15 of the 18-holes already in play, situated adjacent to the tumbling waters of the Letaba River.
This course offers a challenging experience to every golfer, with the promise to improve the short game extensively.

Tzaneen Driving Range: Situated on the Old Gravelotte Road, only one kilometre from the Tzaneen CBD. A well-kept driving range, fully serviced and open seven days a week - also under the supervision of "The Goose Academy".
